Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing the genius behind the renowned brand One Life Foods. This brand has made a name for itself in the supplement industry, boasting several prestigious awards for their outstanding products.
To start, let's delve into the backstory of One Life Foods. What inspired the creation of this brand? And why did you choose the name One Life Foods?
The brand was born out of a passion for plant medicine. There’s a long convoluted story, but I won’t bore you with that. I think it’s enough to say that after almost a decade in the supplement industry, I was looking for something to reignite my enthusiasm, and so One Life Foods was born.
The name was inspired by a low point in my life, where I realised I needed to pull myself together and do whatever made me happy; something meaningful, irrespective of any financial gain, etc. We only have one life - nurture it, enjoy it, and then pass the torch.
Well, just when we thought we couldn’t love your brand more! What a meaningful backstory, and accurate too! Now, let's shift our attention to one of your standout products, Black Seed Oil…
What sets your Black Seed Oil apart from other brands in the market? How is it sourced and processed to ensure superior quality and effectiveness?
Our BSO is a true cold pressed oil. It might not boast the highest Thymoquinone, but it’s 100% as nature intended. It’s important for consumers to understand, that nature gave us all the tools we need to heal, but we should be careful not to over-manipulate these. Compounds such as Thymoquinone are extremely potent - a powerful antioxidant, which can help protect the liver and brain, and may also be anti-carcinogenic (there are studies). But at the same time, as is often the case in life, too much of something good, can be bad. High levels of Thymoquinone can disrupt Redox balance and actually impair the immune response. Over-consumption of high levels can also cause liver and kidney damage, and (depending on the individual) almost certainly lead to gastrointestinal issues even in the short term. So, it’s important to have a product that is balanced correctly, and also provides the correct ratios of other naturally occurring, supporting compounds. There is a small secret to our cold pressed extraction process, but I’m keeping that to myself!
We don’t blame you! It is so great to come across a brand like yours that values its customers' well-being over anything else! Can you provide some insights on how to incorporate your Black Seed Oil into daily routines for maximum benefits? Are there any specific uses or applications that you recommend?
The best way for general health is to take it straight from the spoon. A teaspoon once to twice a day is a good protocol to observe, in my opinion. You can also use it topically for any skin conditions - in which case, I’d suggest a little on the affected area (you can dilute with carrier oil such as coconut), and 1 teaspoon orally. I’m not an advocate of using this oil in cooking - seed oils are extremely heat reactive. You could use as a cold dressing, but the favour of a true cold pressed oil is definitely an acquired taste - best to just get it down in one rather than draw it out over the course of a salad!
Haha, totally on board with that, solid guidance! So, when is the ideal time to consume your Black Seed Oil internally for optimal results? Are there any specific guidelines or recommendations for dosage and frequency?
There aren’t any specific guidelines. Personally, I take a teaspoon on an empty stomach each morning. Some prefer to take it with food. If you’re using it twice a day, then take the second dose in the evening - a couple of hours before bed to help you relax. Some advise taking it 30 minutes before meals to aid digestion. I think the most important thing is consistency - choose your frequency and stick to it.
Got it! On a related note, what are the key health benefits that consumers can expect from regularly using your Black Seed Oil? Are there any specific nutrients or compounds that make it particularly beneficial for overall well-being?
Like all plant medicine, the noticeable benefits will depend on the individual and how for out of balance they are. BSO is a Potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory with the potential for antitumour capabilities. It may potentially promote liver health, fight infections, improve fertility, stimulate the secretion of testosterone and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), reduce skin allergies, improve sleep, lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure, strengthen bones, and support immune function. It will help to regulate your body’s systems by also interacting with the Endocannabinoid system (our body’s master regulator).
Incredible, definitely worth experimenting with for all the potential advantages!
