Today, we have the pleasure of introducing you to the mastermind behind the incredible multi-award-winning brand, Nature's Journey.  Don't go anywhere as we uncover why their products are essential for promoting wellness in today's fast-paced world and gain insight into their unwavering commitment to sustainable practices for the benefit of future generations.


Before we dive into your success, can you take us back to the beginning? How did you come up with the idea to launch Nature’s Journey? Was it always centred around skincare and aromatherapy? 


I’ve worked in the beauty and wellness industry for nearly twenty years, so I’ve long been convinced of the power of plants to transform how we look and feel, naturally – but it was a chance meeting with my now co-founders that introduced me to the incredible benefits of CBD. I’d been considering developing my own range for some time, having worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, and so when the opportunity came to collaborate on a range, I just couldn’t resist. One thing I was determined to do with our skincare range was to keep it simple – I wanted the products to be effective, but also a joy to use. When it comes to Aromatherapy, I wanted to create blends that were a modern interpretation of traditional use, and far more than just a pretty smell. They really do help rebalance emotions – and they’ve ended up becoming our bestsellers. 


We can certainly attest to the outstanding results your products deliver and how enjoyable they are to use! Could you elaborate on why they are considered wellness for the modern generation?


The idea of ‘wellness for the modern generation’ is multi-faceted. First, we recognise that modern living, and the fast pace of life we have adopted is having a negative impact on our physical and mental wellbeing, so our products offer a mindful moment, away from the mayhem. A moment to disconnect from the world and reconnect with your true self. Secondly, modern consumers are savvy – they know what they’re looking for on a label. They know which ingredients to avoid – and so all our products are created using pure plant extracts, and without some of the well-known irritants found in other brands. Lastly, our products are responsibly produced – in small batches, so we never make more than we need, and are packaged in simple, functional packaging that is stylish but also sustainable. 


Amazing! So, reflecting on the pure plant extracts you use, what was the reason behind including CBD in all of your products?


CBD has been used for centuries to address issues with the skin and mind. Using CBD in skincare is a natural way to help soothe, comfort, and rebalance the skin, providing a gentle but effective solution to many skin conditions. By combining with other pure plant extracts, we’ve created a range of hardworking effective products that really do make a genuine difference to the health and appearance of your skin. In aromatherapy, there’s research that shows that inhalation of CBD is particularly effective for addressing issues such as anxiety, restlessness – even depression, and so we use it for example in our Pillow Mist, so you can get the benefits of the essential oils, and the calming effect of CBD, too. There are also some products in our range where we don’t use CBD at all, because there is no benefit in doing so – for example, our Aromatherapy Blends don’t contain CBD because the dilution of the oil with water would mean that the level of CBD would be so minimal that it wouldn’t have any effect. Likewise, our candles don’t contain CBD for similar reasons. 


That makes perfect sense! Your expertise has undoubtedly played a significant role in your success…Can you share what has been the most fulfilling experience for you in your brand's journey so far, and how have you overcome any obstacles that have come your way?


One of the most rewarding parts of our journey has been becoming certified by The Vegan Society, and Cruelty Free International – they’re both hallmarks of our commitment to creating effective, ethical formulations that really work. I’ve worked with several brands in the past that have had vast teams of people working solely on this – but we’ve achieved it with our small team. Likewise, I’m always delighted when we win an award (we’re at 30 and counting!) – for me, it’s validation that our products really do deliver on their promises. Like any start up, there have been plenty of bumps in the road – but we have a mantra ‘test and learn’, so when things don’t go to plan, we challenge ourselves to think differently, and to learn from what we did. I always say it’s not the challenge that causes the issue – it’s how you choose to respond to it.


Loving that mantra, and a huge congratulations on winning 30 awards! Your passion for creating such impactful products is truly motivating, as is your dedication to preserving the environment. Tell us more about your commitment to this…


Launching a brand that relies so heavily on plants, having a real commitment to protect the environment is quite simply one of the most important obligations you have. You can’t be a brand that encourages wellness – and everything that comes with it, if you’re destroying the planet in the meantime. We’ve made some choices about how we do business. For example, we don’t have a ‘head office’ – we all work from home to prevent unnecessary travel (and to protect work life balance), and our meetings are held almost entirely online. When it comes to our products, we opted for glass packaging, as it’s infinitely recyclable, and we avoid the use of varnishes and laminates on our packaging, to ensure that it can be easily recycled. We’re conscious of the inevitable consequences of consumption, so we try hard to minimise our impact wherever possible. We decided very early on that we wanted Nature’s Journey to be a B Corporation. We already live by so many of the principles that they advocate so it just made sense for us. We’ve been Certified B Corp pending (the name they give to new brands that are less than a year old), for a year now – and we’re currently finalising our full certification. We know we’re not perfect, but we’re committed to doing everything we can to build a better business, for everyone.


That’s wonderful and so beautifully stated! As the head of a brand that clearly values nature, what outdoor activities bring you the most joy?


I’m very lucky to live and work on the Isle of Wight – and truly there’s no better place than the Island to get outside and enjoy the natural world. There’s miles of rugged coastline and stunning landscapes to explore, so I love to head off the beaten track with Bertie, my four-legged friend for long walks. I think being immersed in nature has the power to ground me, and acts as a reminder that we’re all part of something bigger. 


Agreed & that sounds like perfection! Your brand’s mission places a strong emphasis on wellness...aside from immersing yourself in nature, how do you personally ensure you're taking care of your wellness?


When it comes to my own wellbeing, I’m afraid to say that I’ve learned the hard way. I spent far too many years working crazy hours, eating for convenience rather than nourishment, and getting far less than my 8 hours sleep per night. I’m still learning to listen to my body – but one thing I think really helps is setting boundaries. Running a small business means that you’re never truly ‘off the clock’, but you have to ensure you set aside time for yourself – for whatever brings you joy. Whether that’s a coffee with a friend, a walk in the park, or getting lost in a good book. These micro moments are so important, and I believe they make you more productive in the long run.

Fantastic! And, are your products suitable for all skin types?


Yes they are! – we rely on our team of volunteer testers to try all of our formulations before we launch them. Of course, if you have particularly sensitive skin it’s always a good idea to patch test any new product first before introducing to your regimen. 



Noted! Before we get to our final question, can you recall any feedback or reviews that made a lasting impression on you? 


We’re very proud to receive so many incredible reviews from our customers – but one that I particularly recall was from a lady who was struggling to sleep due to menopause. She had tried our Sleep Easy Pillow Mist and couldn’t believe how much it’d helped. For her it truly was ‘lifechanging’ – and for a small team, it’s moments like this that give you a real morale boost.
